Origins
LK-NES (S.E.A) Ltd. was established in Singapore by its parent company, LK A/S Lauritz Knudsen of Denmark in 1975. It served as the regional operations center for low tension switchgear of LK A/S of Denmark. Subsequently, LK-NES (S.E.A) Ltd. evolved into a multi-national company with subsidiary plants in the various countries of the region. The focus of its activities were on manufacturing LK's DOMINO, TABULAR and ELC-24 switchboard systems.

With an infusion of technology from Denmark in the early 1980s, a components manufacturing division was established in Singapore. This division serviced the growing market demand for LK's low voltage products such as the QSA series of fuse switch, MCBs as well as its medium voltage switchgear including the ELC-24 load break switch.

In the same period, subsidiary plants were established in Malaysia and the PRC to build switchboards.

Restructuring the business in the 1990s

In 1989, as a result of corporate restructuring within LK A/S, a management buy out was effected in LK-NES (S.E.A) Ltd.

In 1992 LKE - LAURITZ KNUDSEN ELECTRIC was established, under which all the previous operations of the original LK-NES (S.E.A) Ltd. were grouped.

By 1995 LKE's businesses have been structured into three divisions namely the Medium Voltage Components Division, Low Voltage Components Division and the Switchgear Division.  Through this new business structure LKE was able to provide better customer focus in its core businesses.

In 1998, LKE entered into a strategic partnership with the Danish company CUBIC A/S. As a result of this alliance, two new switchboard manufacturing operations were established, located in Shanghai and Beijing respectively. These two plants  now undertake the production of low tension distribution switchboard and marine panels.

At the same time the production activities of the Low Voltage Components Division have been concentrated in LKE's plants in Malaysia and Singapore and Shanghai. These plants now produce low voltage circuit breakers for ratings of 6A up to 3200A as well as other LV products such as the LK-QSA, contactors and ATS.

The Medium Voltage Components Division is located exclusively in Guangdong Province of the PRC. In 2001, construction began on a new plant in Guangdong. This new plant, scheduled to be operational by the end of 2002, will house the entire manufacturing operations of the Medium Voltage Components Division.
