asiaEP.com Sdn Bhd a homegrown trade portal catering to the needs of small and medium-sized enterprises, aims to go regional by establishing itself in Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong and Taiwan by the end of the year

asiaEP.com is basically a business to business manufacturing e-marketplace for SMEs to trade globally.

Its founder and chief executive officer Bernard Tan said the company is set to see a projected increase of trade buying of up to US$100 billion (RM380 billion) with its proposed expansionary measures.

He said with the expansion, 70 per cent of revenue is expected to come from the foreign markets, with contributions from the domestic sector amounting to 30 per cent.

At present asiaEP.com has garnered a 50 per cent market share of online SMEs, and is targeting an increased share of 20 per cent within the next three years.

Tan was speaking to reporters at asiaEP.com's official launch in Petaling Jaya yesterday. The event was graced by Transport Ministry Parliamentary Secretary Donald Lim Siang Chai, who represented Human Resource Minister Datuk Dr Fong Chan Onn.

Tan said the company, which has a paid-up share capital of RM1 million, plans to go public in the second half of 2001 with a listing on Mesdaq.

A total of RM10 million would be invested in research and development activities to upgrade its services in keeping with its Multimedia Super Corridor status.

Since its establishment in 1996, asiaEP.com's e-marketplace has achieved a critical mass of US$60 billion in terms of trade buying value, plus a huge base of 50,000 buyers from 196 countries.
